We began the first year of back yard movies halfway through the summer. We weren’t so sophisticated as to have a seasonal film webpage or a weekly mailing list, yet, so this page is a record and not an artifact of the summer of 2013. It was during this first year, however, that I realized how much fun we could have with this project (now, I don’t even wait for the snow to fall before putting together the next year’s film list). I don’t have a record of what order we played the films, but I know the first was on 14 July. So, when our little 50th and Dorchester Summer Films evolves into the annual Kenwood Children’s Film Festival, archivists and historians can come here to see where it all began.
Before the films, we showed some of my collection of (very) old cartoons: Casper the Friendly Ghost, Popeye (the kids’ favorite), and Superman.
